Modern Silk Road Joint Tour Package

The Modern Silk Road Joint Tour Package’s destination is designed to follow the landmarks of the cultural and historical heritage of the Silk Road in four Member States.

It aims at bringing tourists together with the unique cultural, spiritual, historical and gastronomic life of the traditional Silk Road, which was a source of inspiration for famous travelers, including Marco Polo. This joint package purposes to increase the flow of tourists among the Turkic Speaking States and boost the touristic visits from the third parties.

After the field visits of the experts carried out to the cities in the Joint Tour Package in the course of 2015-2016, the fam trips of the Tour Package were realized on 21 April-5 May 2017 and 12-26 May 2017 with the financial contributions of Prime Ministry Promotion Fund and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Turkish Airlines (THY as the main sponsor of transport), Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) and Air Astana Airlines. 59 media members, academicians and representatives of tour operators coming from 16 different countries such as Belgium, Italy, USA, United Kingdom, Spain, Iran, Singapore, France, Germany, Austria, Qatar, Poland and our Member States participated in the fam trips. During and after these trips, several news and articles were published while TV programs were broadcasted to raise awareness on the rich tourism potential of the abovementioned joint tour package as well as generous cultural and historical heritage of the Silk Road in the Turkic Council Member States.

The Modern Joint Tour Package that is considered as a best practice to attaint Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to boost South-South cooperation is ready to be experienced by the tourists from the Turkic Speaking States and all over the world.  The online selling is also available through the web-site of the Joint Tour Package ( prepared by the Secretariat.  Through the initiative of the Secretariat, the cover page of 2018 April issue of Turkish Airlines Skylife Magazine was devoted to this Joint Tour Package with a 10-page article representing the Silk Road heritage in our Member States.

The Secretariat keeps on promoting the Joint Tour Package. In that regard, a comprehensive presentation was made at the 8th UNWTO Silk Road Task Force Meeting and the 6th Meeting of the OIC/COMCEC Private Sector Tourism Forum hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey respectively on 26-27 April 2018 in Kayseri and on 8 March 2018 in Istanbul. A similar presentation was also realized during the UNOSSC conference themed “Investing in the Sustainable Development Goals through South-South and Triangular Cooperation” held on 15 May 2018 in Prague. Moreover, Turkic Council delegation participated 8th UNWTO International Meeting on Silk Road Tourism on 10-12 October 2018 Thessaloniki, Greece.
